Essential Tools

H’Okay. There are some tools that you really want to have when you’re obsessed with pinball machines.

For heavy lifting, you want a hefty appliance dolly (the kind with a strap to wrap around the payload). I got the Milwaukee HDA700 from Home Depot (the Home Depot website is totally retarded and makes it impossible to link to product pages, so I’ll just give Home Depot Internet/Catalog item numbers for them), item number 100096614. It’s made by Milwaukee Hand Trucks. The one from Home Depot is marked as Model 60700, but I couldn’t find that model number on the Milwaukee site.

When you’ve got a machine up on it’s feet and you want to move it around for working on it or whatever, you need a specialized pinball lift. I have this one. It’s pretty sweet, though a bit pricey at $400.

Of course, you have to have a ratchet set. I like Home Depot item number 100050130. Having the screw-driver-like thingy for it is key. You’ll also want to get a smaller 1/4 inch driver for it, like item 100071460.

Now, totally key is a magnetic screw/nut-driver that takes the generic hex-shaped bits. The only one I could find was the Vermont American 5 piece Multi-bit Magnetic Torx Screwdriver Set (Home Depot item 100016399, only online).

Also get a 1/4 inch magnetic nutsetter. Then you can stick it in the driver above or in your drill. Very handy for all the hex-head screws in the pinball machines. Home Depot item 100025896.
