Indy Status

Friday, February 8th, 2002

Indy is in pretty good shape.

  • Has some lamps out:
    • Grail Jackpot
    • Shorty
    • Upper right pop-bumper
  • Center lock is very dim

  • Some flashers are out:
    • Dogfight Hurryup (#25)
    • Left Ramp (#27) green
  • Jackpot Multiplier (#41)

  • The dot-matrix display is making a nasty whining sound

Replaced the batteries.

3 Machines Up

Friday, February 8th, 2002

I finally motivated and started cleaning out the mess in my basement, making room for some pinball machines to be set up. First three machines going up are: Theatre of Magic, Indiana Jones, and Creature From The Black Lagoon.

Investigation Begins

Tuesday, February 5th, 2002

Disconnected switch matrix row (J209) and column (J207) connectors from cpu board. Now machine sez:

CHECK FUSES 114, 115

Checked fuses, both are good. Hmmm. LED 1 is off on power driver board. TP3 tests at .463 volts. It’s supposed to be 12V. This means the switch matrix is not getting power.

Checked some more test points:

TP1 14V OK
TP2 5V OK
TP3 0.4V BAD!
TP7 22V OK
TP8 0.3V BAD!

Following advice in Clay’s guide I checked for proper AC voltage at J101 and J102 on PDB:

J101-1 5.2VAC
J101-4 0.3VAC
J101-7 10.2VAC
J102-1 9VAC
J102-9 31VAC

These numbers were a little weird, so I checked the AC voltage at the molex connector going from the line filter to the transformer: 125VAC. Perfect.

After playing around a bit I found that with J102 disconnected J101 pin 7 read 13.8VAC and pin 1 read 8.6VAC. Since these were close to the correct value I decided that this part of the circuit is probably okay and just doesn’t read correctly with everything hooked up.

This is my first time tackling an electronics problem on any of my machines.

Slam Tilting

Monday, February 4th, 2002

Slam tilts easier than normal. Adjusted the coin-door slam tilt switch a bit.

Flipper Misbehaving

Saturday, February 2nd, 2002

Right flipper is phantom pressing again. Very sporadic.

Right Shooting Star Cage

Friday, February 1st, 2002

The right-hand “Shooting Star” cage is misbehaving. Occasionally, when the ball enters the bazaar, or activates the tiger lock electro-magnet, or disappears under the genie, the cage fires momentarily. However, it never misbehaves while the ball is in play, and it still catches the ball when it’s supposed to. I can’t seem to reproduce the problem reliably either…
