Replaced shooter coil & sleeve.

Fixed tilt sensor.

New Parts For Banzai

Monday, July 17th, 2000

Rebuilt shooter assembly with new parts. Still needs new shooter sleeve.

Replaced flipper buttons and adjusted flipper switches.

Replaced flipper rubber on lower playfield.

This is the first entry I have for Banzai Run. Pretty sure the machine arrived in July of 2000. – 12/15/2006

Jet Bumper and Coils Fix For Indy

Wednesday, July 12th, 2000

Fixed broken jet bumper (replaced broken solenoid bracket).

Changed flipper coils from FL-11630 to FL-11629 ‘cause I’m anal…

From my notebook:

Divertor and Shooter

Wednesday, July 12th, 2000

Left divertor for the tiger loop isn’t working. Looked underneath playfield, busted spring. Hacked a temporary solution with a twist-tie until I can get a replacement spring. Works a little bit.

Replaced shooter rod.

Borg Ship and DMD

Wednesday, July 12th, 2000

Removed and cleaned borg ship plastic. Didn’t really have much of an effect.

A couple rows of the dot matrix display were a little messed up, so I replaced the display with the one from Hurricane which was in perfect condition. Sweet.

Hurricane

Tuesday, July 11th, 2000

Hurricane arrived. This machine sucks so bad. I have immediately decided to use it for spare parts. Also, I will use the cabinet when I finally get around to building my own machine.

T2

Terminator 2 (T2) is here. This machine is a quite a disappointment. Barely operates.

Some Work For Star Trek

Tuesday, July 11th, 2000

Wanna do some work on ST:TNG today:

  • Replace missing jet bumper cap[1]
  • Clean some of the dirty plastics
    • shuttle
    • borg ship
    • guns
    • flippers
  • Clean metal around guns. Lots of oxidation or somesuch.
  • Look into replacing rails & glass (glass has a big scratch and molding has been dented from the backbox.
  • Mount rear glass slot thingy (rail that goes against backbox, rear of glass slides into it). Wood around screw-holes is all worn and eaten away.
  • Move right outlane post ‘cause the ball drains there too often.
  • Sling-shot switcher, right[2]
  • Rebuild right gun…it’s flaky

Completely rebuilt right gun mechanism top-to-bottom. Replaced wires, replaced opto receiver/transmitter, solenoid (AE-23-800), sleeve (WMS #03-7067). Works nice.

Made some notes on the wiring[3]:

Opto, left: White case, green circuit board.
  Black Wire → K pin
  Grey Wire → A pin
Opto, right: Black case, blue circuit board.
  Grey/Yellow Wire → C pin
  Orange Wire → E pin

I ran a completely new set of wires from the connector under the playfield to the components on the gun mechanism. I didn’t have a completely matching set of colored wires, so here is the new color mapping from orignal wire (under playfield) to new wire (above playfield):

Purple Purple
Grey/Yellow Blue
Red Red
Purple/Yellow White
Orange Green
Grey Grey
Black Black w/silver lettering
Yellow Black w/o silver lettering

From my notebook, right gun with cover removed:

Right gun rebuild notes

Replaced coil sleeve in left popper assembly (WMS #03-7067).

Tried to replace “missing” jet bumper cap under “Beta Quadrant” ramp, but it doesn’t fit. I guess it’s not supposed to have one there[4].

Fixed the clear plastic which sits over the jet bumpers and under the borg ship. It was on backwards.

Moved right outlane post to more liberal position, making outlane entrance smaller.

[1] This bumper cap wasn’t actually missing. But it’s my first machine and I didn’t have a manual.

[2] I don’t remember what this entry meant.

[3] Again, first machine, first time dealing with optos. Clearly the left is the transmitter, right is receiver. I didn’t care at the time ‘cause I just needed to make sure everything was wired up the same.

[4] In hindsight: duh. — 11/13/2006
